1. About these rules
These are the proposed terms for the Glasgow Islay Gaelic Choir Lottery. When entries open, an entrant must read and accept the rules applicable to their draw. The Gambling Act 2005 and other applicable law take precedence over these terms. Keep a copy of the version supplied with your entry.
2. The promoting charity
Glasgow Islay Gaelic Choir is an unincorporated association and Scottish charity SC010028. Its address is 25 Gartconnell Road, Bearsden, Glasgow, G61 3BZ. Lottery correspondence goes to info@glasgowislaygaelicchoir.org or that postal address.
3. Registration and administration
Glasgow Islay Gaelic Choir Lottery is registered with the local council as a small society lottery.
Before you pay, the entry information will identify the responsible promoter and any appointed lottery administrator, including their contact address.
4. Age and residence
Entry is restricted to people aged 18 or over who live in England, Scotland or Wales. Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, the Republic of Ireland and other territories are outside this lottery’s entry area.
An ineligible entry is not included in a draw. An entrant under 18 cannot receive a prize and their entry money is returned. Other rejected entries are refunded; payment is not automatically converted into a donation.
5. People administering the lottery
People directly involved in running the lottery, including the administrator’s relevant staff, cannot enter. Anyone affected by this restriction must not buy entries through another person.
6. Verification
Proof of age and residence may be requested at registration or before payment of a prize; valid photo ID and address evidence are required when requested. Entry or prize payment may be held while checks are completed. The administrator must provide a suitable verification route; do not email identity documents or bank details to this website.
7. Entry price and limits
An entry costs £1 for one draw. One membership per person applies, with a limit of 10 entries per person per draw. Entries cannot be bought for someone under 18 or someone who is self-excluded.
Buying a ticket gives a chance to win, with no promise of a return. An entry is not a donation and is not eligible for Gift Aid.
8. Paying for entries
Bank transfer or cheque; credit cards are not accepted. A payment must have cleared and been allocated to a game number before the scheduled draw time for that entry to be eligible.
Funds received too late for a draw are allocated to the next eligible draw and identified in the confirmation. Where no further draw is available, the unused payment is returned. This website does not collect card or bank details.
9. Confirmation and game numbers
Each paid entry receives a unique, randomly allocated game number shown in the entry confirmation. An email or postal confirmation provides your unique game numbers before the first draw covered by your payment.
Check that your name, paid entries and draw information are correct. Contact info@glasgowislaygaelicchoir.org promptly if your confirmation is missing or appears wrong.
10. Draw schedule and selection
The proposed schedule is Weekly, each Friday at 7pm, UK time. You do not need to attend the draw to be eligible for a prize.
An independently tested random-number generator selects paid game numbers without replacement; a ticket can win once in a draw. The administrator must complete the independent testing required for its chosen draw system before entries open. Each eligible game number has the same chance of selection.
11. Proposed cash prizes
The weekly plan contains one £100 prize, plus 2 × £25 and 5 × £10: 8 prizes, totalling £200. A person with several winning game numbers can receive several prizes, within the entry limit.
No rollover; prizes stay within each draw. There are no superdraws or non-cash prize substitutions in this plan. Any future additional draw requires its own published terms.
18+Great Britain only£1 per entryOdds of winning a prize: 1 in 62.5 at 500 paid entries (2026 illustrative plan)
12. Understanding the odds
The reference calculation uses 500 paid entries and 8 different winning tickets: 8 ÷ 500, or a 1 in 62.5 chance per ticket of any prize. This is an illustrative 2026 calculation, not an established historical result.
The actual chance depends on the number of eligible paid entries. The final entry pool and any revised probability must be made available with the draw information.
13. Proceeds and prize funding
The proposed allocation is 50p to the choir, 40p to prizes and 10p to costs from each £1. At 500 entries, sales of £500 support the proposed £200 prize fund.
18+Great Britain only£1 per entryOdds of winning a prize: 1 in 62.5 at 500 paid entries (2026 illustrative plan)
The allocation is a planning model. Before selling tickets, the promoter must establish funding that supports the published prizes and the statutory minimum of 20% for the cause, including when sales fall below the reference pool. Prizes cannot be reduced after entries have been accepted because sales were lower than expected.
14. Paying winners
Bank transfer to the verified entrant or a cheque in their name, normally within 28 days of verification. A winner does not have to buy another entry, pay a release fee or consent to publicity to receive a prize. Contact the charity if verification or payment is delayed.
15. Unclaimed payments
Unclaimed prizes return to the choir after three months without contact; cheques expire after six months. The administrator must make reasonable contact attempts and explain any impending expiry. A disputed claim or an administrative error can be raised through the complaints process.
16. Results, contact details and publicity
Winners are contacted by email, phone or post using their membership details. Results are published on the winners page using the information the winner has agreed may be shared.
You are responsible for keeping your contact details current. Names, photographs and personal stories are published only with the winner’s permission; declining publicity does not affect a prize. Any consent for publicity can be withdrawn for future use.
17. Ending membership
Email info@glasgowislaygaelicchoir.org or write to the charity to cancel future entries; cancel any recurring bank instruction with your bank as well. Include your name and membership number. Cancellation stops future entries; it does not reverse an entry already validly included in a draw. Any unused balance must be reconciled and returned.
18. Refunds
Completed entries are final, subject to statutory rights; underage, ineligible and cancelled unplayed entries are refunded. A refund is returned to the payer through an appropriate verified payment route. Nothing in these rules removes a refund or remedy required by law.
19. Delays, changes and cancellation of a draw
A draw may be postponed or cancelled where a legal, technical or safeguarding issue prevents it being conducted properly. The promoter must explain the reason and tell affected entrants the revised date or refund arrangements.
Changes are published before taking effect; a cancelled draw is refunded, and statutory rights remain unaffected. A rule change must not retrospectively remove an accrued prize entitlement. Where a paid entry cannot be honoured on the agreed terms, the entrant must be offered a refund.
20. Responsibility and fair treatment
The charity and administrator must take reasonable care when recording payments, running draws and paying prizes. They are not responsible for events genuinely outside their reasonable control, but must take reasonable steps to limit their effect. Nothing excludes liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. Statutory consumer rights and access to the courts are preserved.
21. Complaints and review
Send a complaint to info@glasgowislaygaelicchoir.org or write to 25 Gartconnell Road, Bearsden, Glasgow, G61 3BZ. Explain the problem, the draw date, your membership number and the outcome you are seeking. Include relevant supporting information.
Email or write with your membership number and supporting details; acknowledgement is due within three working days and a final written response within eight weeks. You can ask for the complaint to be reviewed by someone not involved in the original decision. A copy of the procedure is available on request. The charity’s response does not remove your legal rights.
22. Personal information
The charity handles personal information under the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018. The privacy policy explains the controller, purposes, providers and your rights. Optional marketing and publicity require the appropriate permission. Ask info@glasgowislaygaelicchoir.org to access or correct your records.
23. Breaks and self-exclusion
Only spend what you can afford. A maximum of ten £1 entries per draw applies; a payment and winnings history is available on request. Request exclusion by email or post for six months to five years; rejoining requires a fresh request after the exclusion ends and a 24-hour cooling-off period.
During exclusion, the administrator must prevent further entries and suppress direct lottery marketing. Read the safer gambling policy. Free, confidential support is available from the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133 and GamCare.
24. Governing law and copies
Scottish law governs these rules, without removing rights available under applicable consumer law. Save or print the rules for your records, or request a copy from info@glasgowislaygaelicchoir.org.
